MADISON, Wis.—During a closed-door meeting on Friday, Senator Ron Johnson admitted to pushing through a loophole in the 2017 Trump tax law that benefitted his family’s business, before cashing out of the company for at least $5 million. According to the Associated Press and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, during the same meeting, Senator Johnson also acknowledged that he had doubled his wealth since taking office saying, “I’m still sitting on cash.” Last week, Senator Johnson called the Trump tax loophole a “significant accomplishment.”   

Last week, Opportunity Wisconsin launched a new, nearly 7-figure TV ad calling out Senator Ron Johnson for putting his own personal profits above hardworking Wisconsinites. The new ad, “Duty,” features William, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and is a follow-up to “Grocery Store,” which launched last month, and “Power” which launched earlier this year.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson told backers at a recent event in Wisconsin that his plastics company benefitted from a key provision he pushed for in former President Donald Trump’s tax bill in 2017, addressing a line of attack being made against him during his reelection bid.

Johnson made the comments in reaction to a question from an audience member at an event Friday in Medford, the 
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday.

Johnson said that his company, Pacur LLC, some of his prominent donors and many other businesses benefitted from the small-business tax provision.

MADISON, Wis. —Today Senator Ron Johnson quadrupled down on his work to pass a special tax break that benefited his family business during an interview with WSAU, calling it a “significant accomplishment.” In the interview, Senator Johnson also noted that he “only” doubled his net worth, and griped that he hadn’t increased it by much more.

“Senator Johnson is missing the point. Not only did he push through a loophole in the Trump tax law that benefitted his family’s business and ‘disproportionately benefits the wealthy,’ but it was done at the expense of working Wisconsinites. In fact, Senator Johnson’s ‘crowning achievement’ was projected to deliver an average of just $20 to middle-income Wisconsin families in 2019, while giving a payday of over $25,000 to the richest one percent. 
    
“Too many across the Badger State are worried about paying their bills and putting food on the table, and instead of working to bring down costs, Senator Johnson continues to be against bringing new, good-paying jobs to the state, against bringing down the costs on health care and prescription drugs, and against tax cuts for families with children. The new radio ad, “Top Priority,” highlights Senator Johnson’s long track record of working to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, including his recent comments stating that repealing the lifesaving law should be a top priority. The ad will run on Milwaukee radio stations WJMR, WKKV, WXSS, and WZTI.

Wisconsin Celebrates 12 Years of Accessible, Quality Health Care Thanks to Affordable Care Act

MADISON, Wis. —Today marks the 12 year anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law. Roughly 224,000 Wisconsinites are currently enrolled in comprehensive health care plans through the ACA, including 28,000 children. It has also allowed roughly 41,000 young people in Wisconsin to stay on their parents’ insurance until age 26, covered the cost of preventive services for nearly three million people across the state, and continues to lower the cost of premiums for many Wisconsinites.

“Since being signed into law twelve years ago, the Affordable Care Act has provided lifesaving health care coverage for hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites. Democratic group Opportunity Wisconsin launched a new ad hitting incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) over his support for former President Trump's 2017 tax legislation. 

The group, which spent $4.5 million on ads hitting Johnson last year, specifically takes issue with changes he championed for the legislation that would enact lower tax rates for businesses whose owners report their profits on their individual tax returns.

The ad, first viewed by The Hill, alleges the changes to the legislation that were pushed by Johnson benefited his own family business. 

It will air on broadcast, cable and digital platforms in the Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay and Wausau media markets. 

“Everything seems to be more expensive these days. Everything costs more. Ron Johnson should be helping families like us, but he seems to have helped himself instead,” the 30-second ad's narrator, a mother from the Madison area, says. 

“An investigation found that Ron Johnson pushed through a special tax loophole that benefited his own family’s business," she continued. "Then he cashed out of the company for 5 million dollars. He’s doubled his wealth since taking office."

The investigation referred to in the ad was conducted by the Congressional Integrity Project, which suggested in 2020 that Johnson's changes to the 2017 tax legislation would have benefited businesses like Pacur LLC, which Johnson previously owned and held a financial stake in until 2020.
